Ch..uu..t (2012) by Melissa Cascarino

Velvet Blues company presents Chuu..tt…, a choreographic performance paying homage to La Jetée by Chris Marker (1962), a cinematic object unique in the history of film. The choreographic approach is to extract the body from the work, both literally and figuratively, offering a multifaceted reflection based on a vital tension—impulse and fall, the relationship to oneself, to others, to memory, and to death.

Drawing on the narrator’s voice, Chuu..tt… explores the experience of the female character—mysterious and essential, the driving force behind the narrator’s desire and actions. Here, at last, the woman from La Jetée processes the trauma of her experience in a dialogue with herself; at last, she speaks and comes to life through the movement that only she possesses in the film.

Reinvented for each place where it is performed, Chuu..tt… is a choreographic work on memory and the reiteration of a feminine imaginary, unfolding on a luminous pier at the edge of the abyss. Far from reinterpretation, the performance situates itself in an off-screen space of the film. La compagnie Velvet Blues présente Chuu..tt… une performance chorégraphique en hommage à La jetée de Chris Marker (1962), un objet cinématographique unique dans l’histoire du cinéma. La démarche chorégraphique est d’extraire le corps de l’œuvre, au sens propre comme au figuré, proposant un reflet multiple fondé sur une tension vitale, l’élan et la chute, la relation à soi, à l’autre, à la mémoire et à la mort.

S’appuyant sur la voix du narrateur, Chuu..tt… explore le vécu du personnage féminin, mystérieux et essentiel, moteur du désir et des actions du narrateur. Ici enfin, la femme de La jetée élabore le traumatisme de son vécu, en dialogue avec elle-même; enfin, elle se raconte et prend vie, à travers le mouvement dont elle seule est dotée dans le film.

Réinventée pour chaque lieu où elle est réalisée, la performance Chuu..tt… est un travail chorégraphique sur le souvenir et la réitération d’un imaginaire féminin, qui se déploie sur une jetée lumineuse au bord de l’abîme. Loin de la réinterprétation, la performance se place dans un hors-champs du film. Elle est une restitution des multiples ressentis issus des visionnements de La jetée et de l’imaginaire de ses créatrices. (Melissa Cascarino)
